Call for Papers 3rd Annual Digital Law Symposium Co-hosted by Sydney Law School and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision Making and Society We are pleased to announce a call for papers for the 3rd Annual Digital Law Symposium hosted by Sydney Law School and the ADM+S. Dates and venue Monday 30 November 2026, 9.30am to 5.00pm. The University of Sydney Law School, New Law Building F10, The University of Sydney (Camperdown Campus). This event is free to attend, but registration will be required. We regretfully advise that we are unable to provide funding for travel to attend the conference. Symposium Overview and Aims This conference seeks to host/generate a discussion about the future of digital regulation and governance, and the use of technology in and related to the law within Australia and/or internationally. Digital Law includes (but is not limited to) submissions addressing the following topics: ● Digital services regulation including online safety, digital duty of care, online platform regulation, litigation for platform accountability, mis/disinformation ● AI regulation and governance including AI standards, data centre expectations ● Regulation of public or justice sector use ADM and/or AI ● Privacy law, data governance and the regulation of surveillance ● Copyright law in a digital and/or AI context ● Other areas of law applicable to digital services and AI: such as discrimination law, labour law, human rights ● Methodological papers on how to study any of the above, directed at the challenges/opportunities of studying digital law. Australian as well as comparative/international perspectives are welcome, as is interdisciplinary work, provided there’s a connection to law. Submission Options and Guidelines We invite paper, mentoring, and workshop submissions relating to digital law. Timeline · Abstract submission deadline (papers, mentoring, and workshops): 31 August 2026 · Notification of acceptance: 30 September 2026 · Paper submission date for mentoring track: 2 November 2026 · Feedback on mentoring track papers by: 23 November 2026 · Conference date: 30 November 2026 Paper submissions If you would like to give a paper presentation at the symposium, please submit: a) A title and an abstract of approximately 300 words maximum, and b) A short biography, name, affiliation and contact detail of author/authors (in case of more authors, please indicate the name of the corresponding author). Mentoring track for full paper submission The organisers would like to offer the opportunity for full (draft) paper submissions that include review and feedback from a colleague on the organising committee prior to the conference. This option may be most relevant to, but is not confined to, ECRs. If you wish to take advantage of this option, you should: ● indicate your intention to submit a paper with your abstract submission ● if accepted: submit your paper for feedback must be submitted by 2 November. ● our goal is that feedback will be provided by no later than one week before the date of the Symposium, so that the feedback can be used in finalising presentations for the conference. Would you like to organise a side workshop? Tuesday 1 December We would like to offer the opportunity for participants to organise Symposium-adjacent roundtables or workshops for interactive discussion or an in depth investigation of a particular topic. Workshops would be held on Tuesday 1 December 2026 (the day after the Digital Law Symposium). Sydney Law School can offer venue support, and the event can be publicised as part of the Symposium. Workshop organisers would be expected to set the scope and structure of any workshop, as well as select participants if relevant. If you are interested in organising a workshop on 1 December with venue and publicity support, please email the organisers with: ● A title ● a brief (up to 500 word) precis of the event you have in mind, covering (a) topic, (b) proposed structure/duration/number of likely participants, including whether the proposed workshop would be closed, or open to Symposium participants, or open to a broader public, (c) the identity of any already-identified participants, and descriptions of who else would/might be involved.
